Free Guide to Canceling Walmart Plus Membership

Understanding Walmart Plus Membership and Its Features

Walmart Plus is a paid membership program that Walmart offers to shoppers who want certain perks and benefits. The membership costs $98 per year or $12.98 per month, though Walmart occasionally runs promotional rates for new members. Understanding what comes with this membership helps you decide whether to keep it or cancel it.

When you have an active Walmart Plus membership, you gain access to benefits that Walmart markets to frequent shoppers. These include free delivery on orders over a certain amount from Walmart.com, free fuel discounts at participating Walmart and Murphy USA gas stations, exclusive deals and early access to sales, and a feature called "Scan and Go" that lets you scan items with your phone as you shop in-store to speed up checkout. Some members also receive discounts on services like tire installation and battery replacements at Walmart service centers.

The membership also includes access to Walmart Plus members-only pricing on certain products and services. For example, members might see different prices on groceries, household items, and other products compared to non-members. Walmart has also added partnerships with services like DoorDash in some regions, meaning certain Walmart Plus members can receive extra benefits through those platforms.

Many people sign up for Walmart Plus thinking they'll use all the features regularly, but after a few months, they realize they don't shop frequently enough to make the membership worthwhile. Others find that they prefer shopping at different retailers or that the membership doesn't save them as much money as they expected. Recognizing these situations early helps you make the choice to cancel before paying for another year.

Practical Takeaway: Before canceling, review your account to see how much you've actually used the membership benefits over the past few months. Check your order history and fuel discount usage. This information helps you understand whether cancellation makes sense for your shopping habits.

How to Cancel Walmart Plus Through Your Online Account

The most direct way to cancel your Walmart Plus membership is through your online Walmart account on a computer or mobile device. This method takes only a few minutes and gives you immediate control over your subscription status.

To cancel through your account, start by going to Walmart.com and logging in with your username and password. Once logged in, look for the account menu, typically found in the upper right corner of the page. On mobile devices, this might appear as a menu icon or your account icon. Click on "Account" or "My Account" to access your account settings.

In your account settings, look for an option labeled "Membership" or "Subscriptions." Some accounts display this under "Account Settings" or "Billing Information." Click on this section to see your current subscriptions. You should see your Walmart Plus membership listed with details about your current plan, such as whether you're on a monthly or annual plan and when your next billing date is scheduled.

Next to your Walmart Plus membership information, you'll find an option to "Cancel Membership" or "Manage Membership." Click this button to proceed with the cancellation. Walmart will typically ask you to confirm that you want to cancel and may ask why you're canceling. You can select a reason from a list, such as "I don't use it enough," "Too expensive," or "Found a better alternative." This feedback is optional, and your selection doesn't affect your cancellation.

After confirming your cancellation, Walmart will show you a confirmation message. At this point, your membership is canceled. If you're on a monthly plan, your membership ends at the end of your current billing cycle. If you're on an annual plan, your membership continues through the end of your current year, so you keep your benefits until that date. Walmart sends a confirmation email to the address associated with your account, which serves as your receipt and record of cancellation.

Practical Takeaway: Before clicking the final confirmation, take a screenshot or note your cancellation confirmation number. Save any confirmation email Walmart sends. These records are helpful if you need to reference your cancellation later or if there's any confusion about your billing status.

Canceling Through the Walmart Mobile App

If you prefer managing your membership through the Walmart mobile app, you can cancel your Walmart Plus membership directly from your phone. The process is very similar to canceling on the website and takes just a few minutes.

Open the Walmart mobile app and log in if you're not already signed in. Look for the account icon, which is typically located at the bottom of the app screen. This icon might look like a person silhouette or a profile image. Tap on it to open your account menu. This brings you to your account dashboard where you can see various settings and options related to your membership.

In the account menu, look for an option that says "Subscriptions," "Memberships," or "Walmart Plus." Some versions of the app organize this under "Account Settings" or "Billing." Tap on whichever option corresponds to subscription management. This shows you all active subscriptions associated with your Walmart account, which should include your Walmart Plus membership if it's currently active.

When you locate your Walmart Plus membership in the app, you'll see options to manage it. Look for a button or link labeled "Manage" or "Cancel." Tapping this opens a screen showing your membership details and cancellation options. The app will ask you to confirm that you want to proceed with cancellation and may present a survey asking why you're leaving. You can fill this out or skip it—your responses don't prevent the cancellation from going through.

After confirming your cancellation through the app, you'll see a confirmation message on your screen. Just as with the website method, if you're on a monthly billing cycle, your membership ends at the end of your current month. If you're on an annual plan, your benefits continue until your membership year ends. The app displays your new membership status, and Walmart sends a confirmation email to the address on your account.

Practical Takeaway: The mobile app method works particularly well if you want to cancel while on the go or if you're more comfortable navigating on your phone. Make sure you're in a location where you can focus and read all confirmation messages carefully to avoid any confusion about your cancellation status.

Understanding Your Billing Cycle and Cancellation Timing

When you cancel your Walmart Plus membership, the timing of when your membership actually ends depends on your billing plan. Understanding this timing helps you plan your shopping and avoid unexpected charges.

If you pay for Walmart Plus on a monthly basis at $12.98 per month, your membership cancels at the end of your current billing cycle. For example, if your billing date is the 15th of each month and you cancel on the 10th, your membership remains active and you keep all benefits until the 15th of the following month. After that date, you no longer have access to Walmart Plus perks. Walmart won't charge you again after that date.

If you pay for Walmart Plus on an annual basis at $98 per year, your membership behaves differently. When you request cancellation, your membership remains active through the remainder of your annual membership period. For instance, if you bought an annual membership on January 1st and cancel it on June 15th, you keep your membership benefits through December 31st of that same year. After that date, your membership expires and you're no longer charged. Walmart won't deduct any prorated amount from your account.

Knowing your billing cycle matters because it affects when you should cancel. If you're on a monthly plan and you're near your billing date, you might want to cancel immediately so you don't pay for another month. If you're on an annual plan and you cancel, plan to use your remaining membership benefits during the remainder of that year. Many people find it worthwhile to keep their annual membership active through the end of the year rather than canceling mid-year, especially if they plan to use any remaining benefits before expiration.

You can see your exact billing date and plan type by logging into your Walmart account and viewing your subscription details. This information appears in your account settings under the Membership or Subscriptions section. The account page also shows when your next billing date would be if you maintain your membership, or when your current membership period ends if you've already canceled.

Practical Takeaway: Check your billing date before canceling. If you're within a few days of your next charge on a monthly plan, you might want to cancel right away. For annual plans, consider whether you'll use
