United Concordia is a dental insurance company that serves millions of people through employer plans, individual coverage, and government programs like Medicaid and TRICARE. Like most insurance companies, they maintain multiple phone lines and contact options to handle different types of requests. This guide provides information about the various ways you can reach United Concordia by phone, helping you understand which contact method works best for your situation.

The company operates customer service centers during business hours, and different departments handle different matters. Before calling, it helps to know what you need—whether you're asking about your coverage details, submitting a claim question, updating personal information, or seeking information about how your dental plan works. Having this clarity beforehand can make your call more efficient.

United Concordia publishes their main customer service phone numbers on their official website and on member ID cards. These numbers vary slightly depending on whether you have coverage through an employer plan, a government program, or an individual policy. The company's phone lines typically operate Monday through Friday during standard business hours, though specific hours may vary by region and plan type.

When you call, you'll typically reach an automated menu system first. These systems use touch-tone options to route your call to the right department. Common menu options include selecting your plan type, indicating whether you're a member or provider, and identifying the general nature of your call. Understanding these menu options before dialing can help you navigate more smoothly.

Practical Takeaway: Before calling United Concordia, gather your member ID number (found on your insurance card), have your Social Security number ready, and write down your specific question or issue. This preparation helps customer service representatives locate your account quickly and provide relevant information more efficiently.

Main Customer Service Phone Lines by Plan Type

United Concordia maintains separate customer service numbers for different types of plans because each plan type has different rules, coverage details, and processes. Understanding which line to call ensures you reach representatives who handle your specific type of coverage. The company organizes these lines primarily by whether you have employer-based coverage, individual coverage, or government program coverage like Medicaid or TRICARE.

For employer-sponsored dental plans, United Concordia typically lists a dedicated customer service phone number on their website and on member materials. Employees covered under employer plans can use this line to ask about coverage details, find in-network dentists, understand their benefits, or get information about claim procedures. Representatives on this line understand employer plan structures, which means they can explain how your specific group plan works and what your employer chose to cover.

Individual plan members—people who purchased dental insurance directly rather than through an employer—have access to their own customer service line. This line handles questions specific to individual plan rules and procedures. The people answering these calls understand individual plan requirements, renewal processes, and the differences between various individual plan options United Concordia offers.

Members with government program coverage through Medicaid or TRICARE reach different departments because these programs operate under specific government rules. The phone numbers for these members may be listed separately on member cards or on the United Concordia website's section dedicated to government programs. Representatives handling government program calls understand the specific eligibility rules, coverage details, and processes that apply to Medicaid and TRICARE benefits.

Some employer groups and organizations work with United Concordia through brokers or benefits administrators. If you receive your coverage through such an arrangement, you might have a dedicated phone line or contact method specific to that organization. Check your member materials or your employer's benefits information to see if a specialized contact number is listed.

Practical Takeaway: Locate your member ID card and note which phone number is printed there—that's the correct line for your plan type. If you can't find a card, check your employer's benefits information or look for a welcome letter that came with your coverage enrollment materials.

Navigating Phone Menus and Department Routing

When you call United Concordia's customer service line, you'll encounter an automated system that asks questions to route your call to the appropriate department. These systems use voice recognition or touch-tone responses—you either speak your answers or press number keys on your phone. Understanding what information these systems ask for and how to navigate them can save you time and reduce frustration.

The first question in most United Concordia phone menus asks whether you're calling as a member (someone with dental coverage) or as a provider (a dentist's office). This initial routing is important because members and providers reach completely different departments with different resources. If you're a member calling about your personal coverage, select the member option. Dental offices and their staff use the provider line to discuss contract terms, billing, or claim processing issues.

After confirming whether you're a member or provider, the system typically asks you to identify your plan type or to enter your member ID number. Entering your member ID number when prompted allows the system to look up your account and can sometimes route you to department specialists who already have your information available when you connect. If you don't have your member ID readily available, the system usually allows you to continue without it, though the representative may ask for it later.

The menu then usually presents options related to common reasons people call: finding a dentist or dental office, asking about coverage or benefits, discussing a specific claim, making a payment, updating personal information, or other general questions. Choose the option that best matches your reason for calling. If your question doesn't fit neatly into any category, selecting "other" or staying on the line for a representative usually works.

Pay attention to wait time information the system provides. Some systems announce how many calls are ahead of you or give estimated wait times. If you reach the system during a very busy period, you might consider calling back at a different time—typically early morning or late afternoon tend to be less busy than mid-morning or lunch times.

Practical Takeaway: Have your member ID number visible before calling, speak clearly when the system uses voice recognition, and take a moment to select the menu option that best matches your actual question. If you make a wrong selection, you can usually say "representative" or wait for an option to speak with a person to get redirected to the right department.

Common Reasons to Call and What Information to Prepare

Different call reasons require different types of preparation. Gathering the right information before you dial makes your conversation with the representative more productive and can reduce your total time on the phone. Below are common reasons people contact United Concordia and what you should prepare for each.

Finding an In-Network Dentist: Before calling, write down your city or ZIP code and note whether you prefer a general dentist, a specialist, or both. If you have a dentist recommendation from a friend or family member, have their name ready. The representative can search the network for providers near you and tell you which dentists accept your specific plan. Having your geographic preferences ready helps the representative give you the most relevant options.

Understanding Coverage or Benefits: If you want to learn what your plan covers, have your member ID card available and write down specific services you're curious about—for example, "does my plan cover orthodontia?" or "what's the annual maximum?" Representatives can read your specific plan details from their system and explain how your benefits work. If you received a benefits document when you enrolled, have that available too; it often contains the same information but can help you follow along during the conversation.

Asking About a Specific Claim: When calling about a claim, have the claim number, the date of service, the dentist's name, and the procedure description ready if possible. This information allows the representative to locate the exact claim in their system quickly. If you don't have a claim number, have the date of service ready instead—the system can search for claims by date.

Requesting an Explanation of Benefits (EOB): An EOB is a document showing what your insurance paid and what you owe. To request an EOB, have the date of service and the dentist's name ready. The representative can usually email or mail this document to you. Provide your current mailing address and email address so the document reaches you correctly.

Updating Personal Information: If you're moving, changing your phone number, updating your email, or adding dependents, have your current member ID, your current address, and your new information ready. The representative will update your account in their system during the call.

Practical Takeaway: Create a simple note or checklist before calling that includes your member ID, the date you're
