These records show the charges filed against a defendant, the outcome of the case, and any penalties assigned by the judge. The Palm Beach County Clerk of Court maintains most of Delray Beach court records since Delray Beach is located in Palm Beach County. Historically, records were stored in physical files, but many courts have moved toward digital systems. Some older records may only be available in paper format at the courthouse, while newer records are often available online through the county's public records portal.
Court records typically include case numbers, names of parties involved, filing dates, case descriptions, court decisions, and judge assignments. Criminal records may include mugshots, arrest reports, and sentencing information. Civil records often contain complaints, responses, motions, and final judgments. The specific information available depends on the type of case and how far along it has progressed.
Practical Takeaway: Before searching, identify what type of case you are looking for—criminal, civil, family, or traffic—and gather basic information like names, case numbers, or dates involved. This will make your search more efficient.
How to Access Delray Beach Court Records Online
The Palm Beach County Clerk of Court operates an online records system that allows you to search for cases from your computer or mobile device. This system is free to use and can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The online portal is designed for public use, so you do not need a special account or permission to search.

To search online, go to the Palm Beach County Clerk of Court website. Look for the section labeled "Online Records Search" or "Public Records." You will see search fields where you can enter information about the case you are looking for. Most systems allow you to search by defendant name, plaintiff name, case number, or date range. You can search criminal records, civil records, and family law records separately, as they are often maintained in different databases.
When entering a name in the search field, try different variations if your first search does not return results. For example, search for "Smith" if you are not sure whether the record is under "John Smith" or "J. Smith." Some systems are sensitive to exact spelling, so if you are uncertain about spelling, search using only the last name or search within a broader date range.
Once you locate a case in the database, you can view basic information about it for free. This typically includes the case number, filing date, parties involved, and current case status. Some online systems allow you to view additional documents related to the case, such as court orders or judgments. However, certain documents like sealed records or documents related to minor children may not be available online for privacy reasons.
If the online search does not return results, the case may be older or still in early stages. Very recent cases sometimes take a few days to appear in the online system. Cases filed more than 10 or 15 years ago may not be in the digital database and would require a visit to the courthouse or a request to the Clerk of Court's office.
Practical Takeaway: Start with the official Palm Beach County Clerk of Court website for the most current and accurate information. Write down the case number when you find a match, as this will help you locate related documents more easily.

The Clerk of Court's office is typically open during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is a good idea to call ahead or check the website for exact hours and holiday closures. Some courthouses have extended hours on certain days or may offer services online to reduce the need to visit in person.
When you arrive at the courthouse, look for the Clerk of Court's office or the Records Department. These staff members work specifically with public records and can help you locate case information. Bring any information you have about the case—names, approximate dates, or a case number if you already have one. The staff will likely direct you to a computer terminal where you can search the database yourself, or they may search on your behalf if you prefer.
The courthouse maintains physical files for records that are not digitized. If you need documents from an older case, courthouse staff can retrieve the file from storage, though this may take some time. In some cases, you may be able to copy documents at the courthouse for a small fee, or you may need to request copies by mail.
Court buildings have security procedures in place. You will likely need to pass through a metal detector and may need to show identification. Leave bags and prohibited items at home if possible to speed up the security process. Be aware that courtrooms may have proceedings happening, so be respectful and quiet if you walk through the halls.
Practical Takeaway: If you need official copies of court documents or if your online search was unsuccessful, a courthouse visit can be productive. Prepare your information in advance and plan to spend at least an hour for the visit, including security and search time.

Criminal court records document cases brought by the state or federal government against a person accused of breaking the law. These records typically include the charges filed, the defendant's criminal history, bond information, and the outcome of the case. If the defendant was convicted, the record shows the sentence handed down by the judge. Misdemeanor cases involve less serious offenses like minor theft or simple battery. Felony cases involve serious crimes like robbery, assault, or drug trafficking. Both types of records are available to the public, though some information related to minors may be restricted.
Civil records involve disputes between private parties. Someone files a lawsuit against another person or business over a disagreement—often involving money, contracts, or property. Civil records show what the plaintiff claimed was owed to them, what the defendant argued in response, and how the judge or jury ruled. Small claims cases are civil cases involving smaller amounts of money, typically up to $5,000 to $8,000 depending on state rules. These records are less formal and often do not involve lawyers.
Family law records cover domestic matters including divorce, custody, and child support. These records show agreements between parties, court orders regarding child custody and visitation, and child support amounts. Adoption records may be sealed to protect the privacy of the child and adoptive family. Some family law documents may be restricted from public view due to privacy concerns, particularly those involving minor children.
Traffic and violation records document citations and violations heard in traffic court. These include speeding tickets, driving with a suspended license, and other traffic offenses. Small violations may be resolved without court involvement, but more serious violations like reckless driving may result in court cases. These records typically show the violation, the fine or sentence, and the outcome of the case.
Practical Takeaway: Identify which category your search falls into before you begin. This will help you search in the correct database and understand what type of information you will find.
