How to Delete Your Uber Eats Account Permanently

Understanding Uber Eats Account Deletion

Deleting your Uber Eats account is a permanent action that removes your profile, payment methods, order history, and personal information from Uber Eats' systems. Unlike simply logging out or deactivating an account, permanent deletion means you cannot recover your account or its data once the process completes. This guide explains how the deletion process works, what happens to your information, and the steps you need to follow.

Uber Eats operates in over 70 countries and serves millions of users. The company stores personal data including your name, phone number, email address, delivery addresses, payment information, order history, and preferences. When you request permanent deletion, Uber Eats begins a process to remove this information from their active systems. However, certain data may be retained for legal, tax, or operational reasons for a specified period.

Understanding the difference between account deletion and account deactivation is important. Deactivation temporarily suspends your account, allowing you to reactivate it later. Deletion is permanent and irreversible. Once deleted, you cannot use the same email address or phone number to create another Uber Eats account for a certain period, and any credits, promotions, or loyalty points associated with your account will be lost.

Before proceeding with deletion, consider whether you might want to use Uber Eats in the future. If you only want to stop receiving notifications or take a break, deactivation might be a better option. Deletion should be your choice only if you are certain you no longer want any connection to the service.

Practical Takeaway: Make a final review of your account to note any important information such as saved addresses or payment methods you may need elsewhere before deletion begins, as this data will no longer be available after the account is removed.

Steps to Delete Your Account Through the Mobile App

The most straightforward way to delete your Uber Eats account is through the mobile application, available on both iOS and Android devices. The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes and requires you to navigate through your account settings. Follow these steps carefully to ensure your deletion request is submitted properly.

First, open the Uber Eats app on your smartphone and sign into your account if you are not already logged in. Tap the "Account" icon, usually located at the bottom right of the screen. This takes you to your account dashboard where you can see your profile information, payment methods, delivery addresses, and settings options.

Once in the Account section, scroll down to find "Settings" or "Preferences." Tap on this option to access your account settings menu. Within Settings, continue scrolling until you locate "Delete Account" or "Close Account." The exact wording may vary depending on your app version and region. This option is typically found near the bottom of the settings menu.

When you tap on the delete account option, Uber Eats will display a confirmation screen explaining that deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. The app will ask you to confirm your decision. You may be required to provide a reason for deletion by selecting from a dropdown menu or typing a brief explanation. Uber Eats uses this feedback to improve their service. Complete this final confirmation, and your deletion request will be submitted.

After submission, you will receive a confirmation message indicating that your account deletion request has been received. Uber Eats typically processes deletion requests within 30 days, though the company states it may take longer depending on circumstances. You should also receive a confirmation email at the address associated with your account.

Practical Takeaway: Take a screenshot of your account information, including saved addresses and payment methods, before deleting, since you will lose access to all this data once the account is removed.

Deleting Your Account Through the Website

If you prefer to delete your Uber Eats account through a computer, you can do so by visiting the Uber Eats website. This method provides the same result as deleting through the app and may feel easier for some users who work better with a larger screen. The website interface guides you through each step of the deletion process.

Begin by going to ubereats.com and signing into your account using your email address and password. Make sure you are logged into the correct account, especially if you have multiple email addresses associated with different Uber Eats accounts. After logging in, you will see your account dashboard with various options including your order history, saved restaurants, and payment information.

Look for your account profile menu, typically found in the upper right corner of the website, often represented by your name or a profile icon. Click on this menu to reveal a dropdown list of options. Among these options, you should find "Settings," "Account Settings," or "Preferences." Click on the appropriate option for your region.

Within the settings page, scroll through the available options until you find "Delete Account," "Close Account," or "Deactivate Account." Click on this option. Uber Eats will display information about what deletion means, confirming that the action is permanent and cannot be reversed. The website will ask you to confirm your decision to proceed.

When confirming, you may be asked to select a reason for leaving from a list of options such as "I don't use this service," "Poor customer service," "Technical issues," or "Other." Selecting a reason helps Uber Eats gather feedback about why users leave. This step is usually optional but recommended. After confirming your deletion request, your account will be marked for deletion.

Practical Takeaway: After deleting your account through the website, you will receive a confirmation email. Keep this email for your records as proof that your deletion request was submitted on a specific date.

What Happens to Your Data During and After Deletion

Understanding what happens to your personal information after you request deletion is important for privacy reasons. Uber Eats operates under various data protection regulations depending on your location, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) in the United States. These laws govern how the company handles and removes your data.

When you submit a deletion request, Uber Eats begins a process to remove your personal information from their primary databases. This includes your name, phone number, email address, saved home and work addresses, payment methods, and order history. However, the company retains certain information for legal and operational purposes. For example, Uber Eats must keep records related to transactions for tax purposes and to comply with financial regulations. This information is typically kept for a period of 7-10 years, depending on your location and applicable laws.

Your order history may be partially retained to help resolve any disputes or chargebacks with restaurants or delivery partners. Customer support records that document complaints, issues, or inquiries may also be kept for a specified period to maintain service records. Payment card information is typically deleted more quickly than other data because payment processors have specific security regulations about data retention.

Uber Eats may also retain anonymized data about your ordering patterns for analytical purposes. This data is processed in a way that cannot identify you personally and is used to understand general trends in food delivery demand. This information does not contain any personally identifiable information and cannot be linked back to you.

During the 30-day processing period following your deletion request, your account will gradually become inaccessible. You will not be able to log in, place orders, or access your account information. If you attempt to log in, you will receive a message indicating that the account is no longer active or is being deleted. After the deletion process completes, the email address and phone number associated with your account cannot be used to create a new Uber Eats account for a period of time, typically around 90 days.

Practical Takeaway: Before deletion, download or export any information you might need later, such as invoices for tax purposes or records of payments, as this data will not be available after your account is permanently removed.

If you encounter problems while attempting to delete your account or have questions about the deletion process, Uber Eats provides customer support through multiple channels. The support team can help troubleshoot technical issues, answer questions about data retention, or manually process your deletion request if the standard methods do not work.
