Learn How to Change Your Facebook Page Address

Understanding Facebook Page Addresses and Why You Might Want to Change Yours

A Facebook Page address, also called a vanity URL or custom URL, is the web link people use to find your Page. Instead of a long string of numbers like facebook.com/pages/Your-Business/123456789, a custom address looks like facebook.com/yourpage or facebook.com/yourbusiness. This shorter, cleaner link is much easier to share on business cards, websites, social media posts, and advertising materials.

Many Page owners start with a default address that Facebook assigns automatically. You might want to change this address for several reasons. Perhaps your business name changed, or you want something more memorable and professional. Maybe you created your Page years ago and the current address doesn't reflect what your business does now. Some owners find that a shorter, simpler address gets more clicks when they share it in marketing materials or on their website.

Before making changes, understand that your Page address affects how people discover and remember you online. A confusing or outdated address can make it harder for customers to find you. A clear, professional address that matches your business name works better for branding and marketing efforts.

Facebook allows you to change your Page address, though the process has specific rules and limitations. Not all Pages are eligible, and you can only change your address once every 30 days. Understanding these rules before you start will save you time and frustration.

Practical Takeaway: Before making any changes, think about what address you want. Make sure it matches your business name or brand, is easy to spell and remember, and reflects what your business or organization does. Write down your preferred address and any backup options in case your first choice is already taken by another Page.

Checking Your Current Page Address and Eligibility Requirements

Your current Page address appears in several places. The easiest way to find it is to visit your Facebook Page as it appears to the public. Look at the URL in your browser's address bar at the top of the screen. If your Page has a custom address, you'll see something short like facebook.com/yourpage. If you see numbers instead, your Page doesn't have a custom address yet, and Facebook has assigned it a default ID number.

You can also find your Page address by going to your Page settings. Click the Settings option in the top menu of your Page, then look for "Page Info" or "Page Details." This section shows your current web address and other important Page information. Taking a screenshot of this information is helpful for your records before making changes.

Not every Page can change its address. Facebook has specific rules about who can make this change. Your Page must be at least 30 days old. During those first 30 days, Facebook locks the address to prevent people from creating Pages just to grab addresses they'll abandon. Your Page also needs a profile picture and a certain amount of activity to be considered active enough for a custom address.

Pages representing real businesses, organizations, public figures, or causes are typically eligible. Personal profiles cannot have custom addresses the same way Pages do, though the concept is similar. If your Page was created to represent something real and has been used consistently, you likely meet the basic requirements.

Some Pages may have restrictions. Pages that violate Facebook's community standards or policies might not be eligible. Pages that have been temporarily restricted or suspended cannot change their address until the restriction is lifted. If your Page is brand new or has very little activity, Facebook might also restrict this feature until your Page develops more presence.

Practical Takeaway: Visit your Facebook Page and note your current address. If it contains numbers or looks like a default address, write it down. Check when you created the Page to make sure it's been active for at least 30 days. If you're unsure about your eligibility, proceed with the change steps anyway—Facebook will let you know if your Page doesn't meet the requirements.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Changing Your Page Address

The process for changing your Facebook Page address is straightforward once you know where to find the right settings. Start by visiting your Facebook Page. Make sure you're logged in to the account that manages this Page. You need admin or editor access to make this change, so if you manage multiple Pages, make sure you're on the correct one.

Look for the Settings button, usually found in the top menu area of your Page. Click on Settings to open your Page's settings panel. In the left sidebar menu, you'll see several options. Look for "Page Info" or "Basic Info"—the exact wording may vary depending on which version of Facebook you're using. Click this option.

Scroll down through the Page Info section until you find "Username" or "Page Address." This is where your current custom address appears. Next to it, you should see an edit button or a pencil icon. Click this to edit your address. Facebook will open a text field where you can enter your new desired address.

Type your new address into the field. Remember that your new address should be between 5 and 50 characters. It can contain letters, numbers, periods, and underscores. Facebook converts spaces to periods automatically, so "your business" becomes "your.business." Avoid special characters that aren't allowed, and don't use spaces in your typed entry.

Before you confirm the change, Facebook will show you what the full URL will look like: facebook.com/yournewaddress. Check this carefully to make sure it's spelled correctly and looks professional. Then click the button to confirm your change. If the address is available, Facebook will complete the change within seconds. If someone else has already claimed that address, Facebook will tell you it's unavailable, and you'll need to choose a different one.

Practical Takeaway: Once you've changed your address, test it by opening a new browser window and typing the new address directly into the URL bar. Make sure the new link takes you to your Page. Update any places where you've promoted your old address—your website, business cards, social media bios, and marketing materials—to use the new address instead.

Dealing with Taken Addresses and Choosing Alternatives

Popular or short addresses get claimed quickly on Facebook. If you've decided on an address only to find it's already taken, you have several options. First, understand that taking someone else's address isn't possible. Facebook doesn't allow address transfers between Pages unless you can prove the other Page is inactive or violates policies, which is a complex process. Instead, focus on finding alternatives that are still professional and memorable.

Try variations of your first choice. If "mybusiness" is taken, consider "mybusiness2024," "mybusinesspage," or "mybusinessofficial." Adding your location can work: "mybusinessnyc" or "mybusinesschicago." Some owners add descriptive words: "mybusinessconsulting" or "mybusinessstudio." These variations still create professional, recognizable addresses.

You can also check if a similar address might work better for branding. If your exact business name is taken, consider using your tagline, service type, or abbreviated name instead. A dog grooming business called "Pampered Paws" might use "pamperedpawsgrooming" if just "pamperedpaws" is taken. This alternative might actually describe your business better.

When selecting alternatives, think about what your customers would naturally search for or type. Avoid addresses that are too long, hard to spell, or contain underscores and numbers that might confuse people verbally. If you tell someone your address out loud, they should be able to spell it correctly on their first try.

Test your alternatives before settling on one. Say them out loud. Imagine typing them quickly on a phone. Think about whether they look professional on a business card. Sometimes a slightly different name works better in practice than it does in theory.

Practical Takeaway: Make a list of five to ten address variations before you attempt to change anything. This way, if your first choice is taken, you immediately have backups ready. When trying alternatives, write them down and look at them for a few days. Sometimes an option that seems awkward initially becomes more appealing once you're used to seeing it.

Important Restrictions and Things to Know Before Changing

Facebook restricts how often you can change your Page address. You can only change your address once every 30 days. This means if you change your address today, you cannot change it again for 30 days from now, even if you realize you want something
